Democracy and Uberties Island
Witnessing the rebirth of an island long shrouded in grief and history, and being part of that transformation, was an indescribable honor. The island where the late Prime Minister Adnan Menderes of the Republic of Turkey once stood trial, long abandoned and silent, has now reclaimed its identity—coming to life with museums that whisper its past, conference halls, a hotel, and a mosque. Brought back to nature through thoughtful landscaping and verdant plantings, the island reflects a vision both holistic and timeless.
Despite its isolation from the mainland and the challenges of harsh weather, witnessing the round-the-clock efforts to bring this project to life became one of the most unforgettable and inspiring experiences of my career. This journey reaffirmed my deep connection to history, to nature, and to the transformative power of design.
